Last year, for Valentines I had flowers delivered (By 1800Flowers) to my wife at work. I thought she'd be excited to rub everyone's face in her beautiful flowers. She left the flowers in the box they were sent in all day long. This year I am skipping the delivery fees and supporting a local flower shop.
Oppo what's your story of a Valentine that didn't work out how you anticipated?

1800Flowers just uses local florists anyway doesn't it? I'm pretty sure that's why it costs more for flowers from them than their weight in gold.

I suggest getting flowers at a local grocery store over the flower shop. Why spend $100 on a dozen roses when you can spend less then $20?

A Valentine's Day that didn't work out for me was when I fixed a special dinner for my ex. I made a heart-shaped meat loaf, a heart-shaped Jello and a heart-shaped cake. He said "what a lot of work for nothing."
Women have incredible memories. I'll never forget those words.

I went to a college with a 3:1 girl guy ratio. Some of my female friends took to calling it Cheeseburger Day insteadand wearing all black and going out for cheeseburgers.

I ordered from ProFlowers.com for delivery to my girlfriend's office today. We were expecting snow for today so I wasn't sure if she'd be at her office or not today so I had the order changed to deliver them to her house. I didn't want them to deliver them to her job if no one was there. Sure enough, the snow storm was nowhere near as bad as expected and she went to work. It defeats the whole purpose of sending flowers.

I tried to cook a fancy garlic pasta and chicken, candlelite dinner with flowers for an ex. She told me I should've just taken her to a restaurant.

I suppose in the future I will. I think flowers are a pointless gift anyway, but I was going for the bragging to her coworkers aspect.

One time my girl made me baked salmon. I despise salmon of any sort. I smiled and ate it like it was the greatest thing ever. That's the proper response to someone going through that kind of effort.

My current girl makes me try all sorts of stuff she knows I don't like, but if she makes it I'll happily eat it and give a compliment. (She does this because most stuff I say I don't like I've just never tried before).

$57 for flowers that will die and a box of chocolates, pretty pointless. My girlfriend isn't even the type that goes for flowers, but I just got her jewelry for her birthday in August and for Christmas. We usually get each other more practical gifts.

I...how did you not just straight up murder him?
A couple years ago, before the little one, I made a huge crablegs dinner for my wife. She got stuck at work late. I kept it warm. She showed up, and damn near started sobbing.
Turns out it was due to the pregnancy hormones, but it still felt damn good.

I ordered from 1-800 Flowers for my wife a couple years back, but they never got delivered to her work. The delivery guy couldn't find the place and didnt bother to call anyone. By the time I called them at 7pm they offered to deliver the next day.
When I was younger I was dating this hot jewish girl I had went on maybe 5 dates with. I bought her a bracelet for valentines day, and it totally freaked her out. She abrubtly ended it. It was only a $30 braclet?

You can select "florist delivery" on 1800 flowers, so it skips that delivery in a box stuff and only shows you what is going to be delivered by a person. That's what I always do if I am ordering flowers and I am at sea. But I like your idea of finding and supporting a local business, I'll do that next time.
